MYON – ONLINE READING PROGRAMME DESIGNED TO SUPPORT READING FROM HOME

All students are invited to use MyON, an online reading programme designed to support reading from home. MyON is an online catalogue of over one thousand fiction and non-fiction books, and uses tools such as audio narration to support your reading. All students have been set up with an account, and can now explore the site and use it as they wish.

Reading helps to build literacy skills, and this has been proven to develop learning skills across all subjects. Plus, reading is an enjoyable and relaxing pastime, and a great way to wind down in the afternoons after the school day has finished. When students log into MyON for the first time, they will be asked about their interests and what they like to read, and MyON can then help them to choose books that relate to these.

Students should challenge themselves to read at least 3 books per half term (roughly one every two weeks), and should aim to read for about 20 minutes a day. Their reading will be monitored to observe and support them.
