Formal Consultation

21st May 2018

Dear Stakeholder

The Williamson Trust is proposing that the Sir Joseph Williamson Mathematical School, The Math, makes an application to the Secretary of State for a significant change to the Academy for the enlargement of the school premises to accommodate the planned admission numbers in September 2019.

This fast track application relates to the physical expansion of the premises to accommodate an additional form of entry increasing the PAN to 203 from 2019 that was consulted on in Autumn 2017

The changes proposed to the premises are the construction of a new classroom block, extension of the main assembly/dining hall, provision of two additional sports changing rooms and internal re arrangements to provide two science labs and two classrooms.  Additional external social space will also be created.

The Academy, rated Outstanding, is consistently over subscribed and with the increase in population locally, this pressure continues to increase.  Consequently the demands on delivering outstanding education and student welfare become greater and harder to meet.

The provision of additional classroom space will enable the additional form of entry not to jeopardise the continuation of the high standard of education currently provided and will provide good and appropriate physical space to ensure that the students will continue to receive outstanding education.

We are now undertaking a consultation on this proposal as required in the making of the application. Please let us know what you think about these proposals by writing or emailing to the school at the addresses below

The deadline for making comments is the Friday 29th June.

At the end of the consultation period the Governors of The Math and the Trustees of the Williamson Trust will consider the responses and decide whether to proceed with the proposal.

Responses should be sent to:
